About me
From the Boardroom to the Weight Room: The Business of Fitness
Most Personal Trainers are taught how to change bodies. Very few are taught how to build a business.
My path into the fitness industry wasn’t typical. Before I ever picked up a clipboard or designed a program, I spent twenty years in the UK corporate world. My job was simple in theory, but complex in practice: I was a "fixer."
I worked alongside iconic brands like NatWest, Rolls Royce, and Marks & Spencer. These organizations had vastly different cultures and agendas, but they all had one thing in common: problems that needed solving. My role was to diagnose those issues and not leave until the solution was implemented.
Dealing with everyone from CEOs to frontline staff gave me a masterclass in how businesses actually breathe, scale, and—most importantly—survive.
The Reality Check
In 2008, weighing 132kg and being incredibly unhealthy and unhappy, I put my health first. I stepped away from the corporate ladder to follow a passion, earning my Diploma in Personal Training from the most respected training provider in the world.
The practical education was faultless. I knew the science of the body inside out. But as I entered the industry, I noticed a glaring omission: The course taught us how to be trainers, but it didn't teach us how to be entrepreneurs.
The results were predictable:
-
14 trainers qualified in my intake group.
-
12 months later, only 3 of us were still in business.
We all had the same practical skills, but I had the "Corporate DNA" to navigate the market, manage the finances, and build a brand. I didn’t just survive, I thrived—developing multiple fitness brands and eventually relocating my business to another country without significant outside investment.
Why "My PT Mentor" Exists
The fitness industry is full of "generic" support but very little tailored to an individuals needs. The high turnover rate of trainers proves that these options aren't working.
I founded My PT Mentor to provide the missing piece of the puzzle. I offer the high-level business knowledge, problem solving experience, and strategic support that I used to help billion pound companies.
I don't just want you to be a great trainer. I want you to have a sustainable, profitable, and scalable career.
"Success in fitness is 20% what you do on the gym floor and 80% how you run the business behind the scenes."
"Most PTs fail because they treat their career like a job, not a company."
I’m not here to teach you how to program a squat, I’m here to ensure you’re still in business five years from now. No fluff. Just a straight talking audit of where you are and where you need to be.
If you’re tired of the 'hustle' and ready to build a business that actually supports your life, just buy me a coffee and we can chat.
